Biography:
Hello everyone, my name is Tiffany Marx and I am the current president of the Alabama Association of Nursing Students. This is my second term to serve as your president and my third term to serve on the AANS executive board. I currently attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I am enrolled in the RN to BSN program. I plan to graduate the fall of 2013 with my BSN. I received my ADN from the University of West Alabama in Livingston, AL in May 2011. I am currently employed at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS as a registered nurse.

This year my main goals are to increase NSNA membership and increase communication among the AANS constituents throughout the state of Alabama. We are the nurses of tomorrow. We are the leaders of tomorrow. AANS is a great foundation and a wonderful opportunity to assist in the cultivation of an awesome nurse. I am here to serve the constituents of Alabama. I am so excited to be working for you and to represent you this year. We are going to have an awesome year.

Biography:

I am a second degree nursing student in my second semester at the Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama. Originally from the Washington, DC area I got my first degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and then worked as a Corporate Recruiter for a large software company until I decided it was time to figure out what I really want to do with the rest of my life. Coming to nursing has been a great decision for me and I'm truly happy to be pursuing this career and attending The University of Alabama. My experience as AANS state Treasurer has been fulfilling and I am excited to be serving you as your Treasurer. Biography:

Hello. My name is Karen Shelley. I am a student at Northeast Alabama Community College. I am currently in the process of getting my associates degree in nursing. I will graduate in May 2013. I am married and have five children. I was a stay at home mom for the last 11 years. Then three years ago, I felt called into the nursing field. I began my journey by taking my prerequisites and studying hard. Now I proudly find myself in my fourth semester and loving what I’m learning. I plan to start taking classes for my BSN shortly after I graduate and then proceeding to get my master’s degree. My ultimate goal is to be a nurse practitioner in family practice or emergency care. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as secretary on the executive board of AANS. So far, it has been a great experience and I have learned a lot. I look forward to the rest of my term in office and a great year of service to my state.

Biography:

My name is Shade Smith and I currently live in Birmingham, AL. I am a second degree student in the BSN program at University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have a previous Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology that was received at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I am an active member of my local chapter and currently serve as the Associate Fundraising Chairperson at UAB's student nurses association. My future goals are to become a critical care pediatric nurse and continue my education to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I look forward to serving as Legislative Chair and helping AANS reach their goals.

Biography: 

Alicia M. Logan is the daughter of Richard Sharper Jr. and Gina Sharper of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alicia graduated with honors from Paul W. Bryant High School in May of 2006. Alicia received a B.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in nutrition and biology from The University of Alabama, where she graduated magna cum laude in May 2010. She went on to receive a M.S. in Community and Rural Health from The University of Alabama in December 2011. Alicia is currently a second semester student at the Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. Alicia has participated in numerous activities including: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Golden Key Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Health Careers program, and International Scholars Association. Alicia has also participated in a number of programs outside of The University of Alabama, including a study abroad program to Guanajuato, Mexico and Spain. She also was a recipient of the A.F. Bertram Bonner Scholarship, which provided funding to complete over 1500 hours of community service each year. Her interests in nursing include: community health, pediatrics, and women’s health. Alicia plans to use her skills and abilities she has acquired through education and experience to make her term as Community Health Director an excellent one. She plans to implement new service projects that will serve the needs of the state of Alabama. Upon completion of her studies, Alicia plans to pursue further education while gaining clinical expertise, in hopes of one day becoming a professor of nursing education.

I am Michelle Irvine, and I attend Northeast Alabama Community College in Rainsville where I serve currently as Secretary/Treasurer of my local ANS chapter. I started out as an EMT  through Roane State Community College and decided to further my education in the medical field.  I look forward to graduation and the time when I am able to become a Cancer Institute nurse or a Hospice Nurse as both fields have made a great impact on my family in the last few years.  I plan to put everything I have into my  career, and to help as many people as possible along the way.  I hope to increase total school enrollment this year, and I am looking forward to a great year with the AANS.

My name is Selena DaCosta. I am the 2012-2013 Breakthrough to Nursing Director for the Alabama Association of Nursing Students, AANS. I am a second semester nursing student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and currently serve as a class representative for the UAB SNA. In my spare time, I enjoy running, spending time with my family and camping. 

I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as AANS Breakthrough to Nursing Director. I am very passionate about nursing and through my position as Breakthrough to Nursing Director I hope to inspire others to choose nursing! This year I hope to recruit students from schools around the state to join SNA, AANS, and the National Student Nurses’ Association. In addition, as Breakthrough to Nursing Director, I hope to breakdown the social stereotypes of nursing and help students realize their potential through nursing.

Hello, My name is Rosalynde Peterson! I am a Nursing Instructor at Shelton State Community College where I also serve as the advisor for the Shelton State Association of Nursing Students. I attained a Doctorate of Nursing Practice with a concentration on Education from Samford University, a Masters in Nursing from the University of Alabama, and a Baccalaureate in Nursing from the University of North Alabama. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA), Jack and Jill Inc. of America, and the Impact Nation Fellowship Church. I have recently completed the ASNA Leadership Academy. My husband of 12 years, Julius, and I have a son named Jaden Kristopher.
As a new advisor to the Alabama Association of Nursing Students, I’m looking forward to working with a great caliber of student leaders and peer faculty. Let’s have an exciting and productive year!
